Families and Children

Child Protection

You should make a report to Child Protection if you have formed a reasonable belief that a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm as a result of abuse or neglect and their parent has not or is unlikely to protect them from harm of that type.

Parentline

Parentline is a statewide telephone counselling and support service for all Victorian parents and carers of children from 0-18 years.
Experienced social workers, psychologists and family therapists can give you counselling and information around a wide range of parenting issues.

Kids Help Line

Kids Helpline is a service for young people to call anytime, for any reason.

Organising a collection at a memorial or funeral

We understand that the loss of a loved one is a very challenging and difficult time. If you have lost a loved one and wish to set up a donation in memory, we can assist in organising this for you.

If they are unable to help, please call 03 9450 0900 during office hours to register your loved one's memorial, or email communications with the details. Kids First provides donation envelopes that will assist in making the donation process easier for your family and friends attending the service. These will be sent via post within three working days. A letter will accompany the envelopes outlining how to return the donations to us.

Once Kids First has received all of the donations from the memorial, we will send all donors tax-deductible receipts for donations $2 and over. We will also send the nominated family member an acknowledgement with the tallied amount donated in memory (for privacy reasons we do not disclose individual donations amounts).

Requesting donations instead of flowers

If you would like people to make a donation to Kids First instead of sending flowers, it is helpful to include this information in the death announcement. For example 'Donations in lieu of flowers to Kids First Australia would be appreciated.'
