Overview

The Same Page program empowers Year 8 students to learn how to recognise signs of exploitation and grooming. It also encourages them to think about how they can build self-confidence and behave in ways that match their personal values, all while promoting healthy and respectful relationships.

Same Page builds on students’ prior learning about their healthy selves and relationships. Students will be supported to explore grey areas in intimate and sexual relationships where safety and wellbeing can be adversely affected by power dynamics including status, gender, and age differences.

Same Page content is backed by evidence and built on the experience of Kids First’s expert prevention team.

Same Page Themes

Same Page is facilitated across two sessions and will cover themes such as:

Help Seeking
How to seek help and understand who to turn to during difficult times and situations.

Understanding Consent and Pornography
Increase understanding of the law around the age of consent and Increase understanding of the nuances around communication and the need for implicit, informed, and enthusiastic consent.

Grooming and Online Safety
Build awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation and Increase awareness of grooming behaviour and separation of grooming myths from reality.

Gender and Sexual Identities
What does LGBTQI mean? How do you understand stereotypes? What is sexuality? How do we show respect?

Relationships
Increase understanding of healthy and unhealthy relationships, and what is the difference between friendships, intimacy, and familial relationships.

Key Learning Objectives

Build confidence that aligns with behaviours and values.
Recognise indicators of exploitation and/or grooming.
Strategies and skills for safety and wellbeing in sexual and healthy relationships.
Strengthening peer relationships and support.
