Ahead of a special National Volunteer Week (20 – 26 May) event to recognise Kids First’s many dedicated volunteers, the organisation’s CEO Aileen Ashford said volunteers bring myriad riches to Kids First’s services.
“The experience, rich social connections and genuine enthusiasm our volunteers bring adds incredible value to Kids First and our clients. We’ve had a long history of volunteerism throughout our more than 120-year history. Members of our community have generously worked side-by-side with us and without their skills and energy, we could not provide our programs and continue to expand our work across the community.”
Kids First provides educational, family and support services for children, young people and families in Melbourne’s north east.
Volunteers are currently engaged across a broad spectrum of the organisation’s activities including:
- Mentoring Mums – sees experienced mothers act as mentors to expectant or new mothers who are experiencing some degree of social isolation and vulnerability
- Korin Korin Early Years Centre – benefits from volunteers assisting as classroom helpers as well as performing administrative duties
- Op Shops – in Rosanna and the newly opened Thornbury Op Shop are regularly staffed by volunteers
- Fundraising activities – include golf days and corporate fundraisers where volunteers have worked tirelessly in event planning and delivery.
“We know we’ve benefitted from actively engaging volunteers and the feedback from their side is also positive. Our volunteers have relished the opportunity to share their knowledge, and be involved in our vital community work,” said Ms Ashford.
Kids First Australia welcomes applications to join its growing and dynamic volunteer pool. All volunteers must be willing to undergo a Police check and Working with Children check. To register interest, visit: www.kidsfirstaustralia.org.au/page/52/volunteer-with-us
